Hello Beauties! Hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far. My hair goes through some pretty intense transformations on a daily basis. Whether I’m headed to work or out for a romantic dinner date, my hair sees its fair share of heated styling tools – complete with tugging, curling, straightening and dont forget the hairspray. While I do take precaution to use gentle products, the truth is there’s only so much you can do to save your strands while styling like this, really.
I think we all desire that gorgeous glossy hair, so I have decided to share everything from my own personal care hair routine, to tips on how to make it grow faster, break less and have more volume. Read on to find out my personal 5 favorite ways for keeping my locks in the best shape possible! And for all you mamas out there one of my favorite tips for achieving quick and easy curls.
1. Shine From The Inside Out
Including a lot of greens and healthy fats in your diet will provide your body with the proper nutrients, to promote healthy hair growth. Also, staying super hydrated will help flush out toxins and plump up the skin cells. So give your body the good stuff so it can shine from the inside out!
2. Use A Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Sulfate is the active ingredient found in most beauty and household products that acts as a surfactant – the stuff that creates bubbles. Although it is nice to use a product that lathers easily, it’s not the best for our hair. Sulfate is actually quite harsh, it can strip a lot of the nutrients and natural emollients from our scalp. Thankfully there are a ton of sulphate-free alternatives available today, including one of my personal favourites Boo Bamboo Hair Strengthening Shampoo. I am always on the look out for new shampoos, but this one is hands down my go to choice. It creates a beautiful lather and leaves my hair feeling super soft and shiny! I also recommend, minimal washing. Try to go 2-3 days in between washes to let the natural oils condition your hair and scalp.
3. Regular Deep Treatments
If you have dry, damaged or coloured hair, look into doing a weekly D.IY all natural deep treatment mask for your hair. There are a ton of fun recipes to try, but one of my all time favorites uses coconut oil. Try this inexpensive D.I.Y hair changing treatment and you will never turn back.
D.I.Y Glossy Hair Mask:
• 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil
• 1 tablespoon of organic raw honey (add more of each for longer hair)
• Warm the mixture gently over the stove, stirring constantly
Slather this sweet-smelling concoction in from your roots to ends. Leave the mask in for as long as you can — anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Since my hair is fairly long, I just wind it up into a bun or wrap it in a spare towel to keep it from getting all over the place. Afterwards, shampoo well and condition as usual.
*works best when you apply this mixture to wet (unwashed) hair.
4. No Heat Curls
Like most girls I do appreciate a good blow out, or a super sleek style created with a flat-iron occasionally , but the use of these heated styling tools day after day can be extremely damaging to your hair. I prefer creating waves naturally, and not only does it save you time but is far less damaging to your beautiful locks. You can either twist your hair into a top knot bun – wich can be a super cute style all on its own and spritz with a little water and allow to dry while you get ready or do errands during the day – once your hair is taken down you will be left with soft natural waves. Another option, try placing a fabric hair band around your head like Rambo, divide hair into two sections and starting at the front begin wrapping one section around hair band until you reach the back of your head, tuck the end in and then repeat on other side. Sometimes I do this before bed then I undo in the morning and simply spritz on some shine spray and go. Either way your hair will look and feel amazing!
5. Take Care Of You – Be Happy !
Try eliminating stress from your life. Stress and anxiety can be a major factors in the cause of hair loss, poor hair growth and unhealthy skin. I can’t emphasize enough that, only when we feel good, can our bodies operate at their optimum best! So take the time for you, and do the things that make you happy. At the end of the day, our bodies respond to our emotions and feelings, so it is important to FEEL GOOD! Find balance in your life and you will be so thankful.

The lesson here is to take care of your body, nourish yourself within. Eat lots of healthy food, and drink plenty of water. “A healthy outside starts from the inside.” Of course taking the right supplements can also be beneficial, you can talk to someone at your local health food store to learn what products might be right for you.
