As we age, not only does our style change, but our skin care needs change too. At every stage of life, we should feel comfortable in our own skin and learn to make the most of our best features. Read on to find out how you can adapt your skin care and makeup routine at each stage in your life to achieve your own personal best.
Make up for all ages!
In your 20’s
This is the age for experimenting with vibrant colors and multiple different looks, it’s the time to truly let your personality shine. Try experimenting with different make up looks until you find the one that best suits you. Not sure where to start? Thousands of “how to” make up tutorials can easily be found, free of charge via You Tube and/or Pinterest. All you need is access to a computer or tablet and the Internet.
The first step to perfect makeup application is getting to know your skin type. This will help you to select products that are best suited to you skin care needs, eliminating any un wanted skin problems.
Commonly at this age we battle shine in the t-zone. You can easily eliminate this excess oil, first by applying an oil reducing primer, then setting your make up with a translucent mattifying powder.
I highly recommend establishing a good skin care routine at this early age. Always ensuring to fully remove all your makeup before bed and using the appropriate skin care products will help to protect your skin and combat against any unnecessary skin issues over time.
In your 30’s
At this age, we require a balance between practicality and beauty. It’s important to look and feel great, but we often are living very busy lives, with time being very precious we often look for ways to cut corners.
To maintain a healthy looking glow, keep your skin properly cleansed and well hydrated to help prevent fine lines and reduce pores. Applying a good BB cream to you skin daily is a great way to give your skin a flawless appearance. I also recommend applying a good lip balm to your lips morning and night to create a barrier against environmental stresses such as cold, heat and wind.
Emphasizing your eyebrows is a very important step to creating harmony when applying your make up anytime of day and eyeliner with a smoky eye will provide a touch of allure and glamour for night-time application.
In your 40’s
This is the time when we start to see wrinkles appear, primarily in the eye, brow and forehead areas.
It’s best to choose nutrient rich skin care and make up products that help to reduce and eliminate the appearance of aging. Specifically seek out anti-aging cleansers, moisturizers and eye creams.
Focusing on your most attractive features such as your lips or eyes will pull attention away from any fine lines that may be appearing. Using a primer and reducing the amount of make up that is applied directly in areas with creases will help reduce product build up and create a smoother surface. A good eye primer will also help to smooth the eyelid and help to set your shadows preventing any creasing.
Another great product to use at this age is an illuminating cream, which can be applied before makeup or combined with your foundation to create a fresh youthful glow.
In your 50’s
During these years its best to emphasize your natural beauty and even out the skin tone.
Seek out skin care products and makeup that contain a SPF to protect against the harmful rays of the sun and prevent pigmentation. Products containing sunscreen will also help to hydrate and provide nutrients needed for your mature skin.
When applying your makeup, stick with lighter shades such as peach and pink on the cheeks to give a youthful appearance and help to open up and lift the eye area by curling lashes at the ends. Avoid shades of red when choosing make up products as it will only accentuate any skin imperfections.
In your 60’s
At this age we want to embrace true elegance.
Best practice is to apply a good moisturizer and serum daily before make up application, to help prevent foundation from drying out during the day.
Try using a pink shade of concealer to help minimize the appearance of age spots followed by a nutrient rich foundation. To enhance your natural elegance and give your skin a healthy glow, apply a rich natural blush to your cheeks.
Don’t forget to fill in the brows naturally as they become less dense at this age. You can find tips on achieving the perfect natural looking brows here. Adding black mascara and a bright lipstick help to open up the eyes and give volume to the lips. Do avoid darker matte shades of lip stick and liners as they will bleed into wrinkles around the mouth area.
Not wearing the right makeup, can sometimes add years to your look. At 15 girls are applying makeup, pretending to be in their 20’s and when we reach 50 we want to appear to be in our 30’s. It’s all about balance, try to find a skin care routine that best suits your skin type and individual needs. For those of you in your 20’s and 30’s this will help to maintain a healthy glow and prevent the appearance of fine lines and premature aging. For those of you in your 40’s, 50’s and 60’s having a good skin care regimen will help prevent further damage due to effects of the environment around you and possibly help to reduce the appearance of any imperfections.
